“I do my work and don’t even need to step back from it, because it never belonged to me in the first place. Nothing belongs to me. Everything comes and goes. Serenity is an open door.”
– A Thousand Names for Joy by Byron Katie
When I read this quote, I am struck by how well it sums up my work as a Reiki practitioner.
Reiki never belonged to me in the first place. I did not create it. When I start a treatment, I tune in and it’s there. When I end the session, I tune out and we are done.
I say “we” because both the client and the practitioner are done. The former just received Reiki and it will go to where it’s needed. The latter facilitated the flow of Reiki and created a safe, quiet and nurturing space for the client to relax and be receptive. Reiki has its own intelligence. We can only allow the process to unfold.
When we can work together with such simplicity, life is serene indeed.
